In the heart of Milan, from 4th to 6th April 2025, the 29th edition of Miart will take place at Allianz MiCo. With 179 participating galleries from 30 countries, this year’s modern and contemporary art fair promises a vibrant mix of long-awaited returns and new international participations. The chosen theme, ‘Among Friends’, not only celebrates friendship and collaboration, but also underlines the synergies strengthened over time between galleries, institutions, curators and artists.

An Appointment with Global Art

1. An Exceptional Mix of Talents

The fair, under the direction of Nicola Ricciardi, will feature illustrious galleries such as Ben Brown Fine Arts, Sadie Coles HQ, MASSIMODECARLO, Meyer Riegger, Victoria Miro, and Esther Schipper. This mix includes works ranging from 1st and 2nd century masterpieces to contemporary creations that address current global issues.

2. Distinct Sections and Different Perspectives

Miart 2025 will be divided into three main sections:

  • Established for established galleries,
  • Emergent for new voices in contemporary art
  • Portal for works that link the artistic past and future.

This edition offers not only works of art but also extends to design, including a special presentation of designer furniture and a tribute to Italian masters.

Events not to be missed: ‘Between Friends’ and Beyond

1. Talks Among Friends

A highlight of the edition will be the programme entitled ‘Talks Among Friends’, developed in collaboration with important cultural foundations such as Fondazione Prada, Museo del Novecento, PAC, Pirelli Hangar Bicocca and Triennale Milano. These events aim to promote dialogue and reflection on the contemporary art scene.

2. Milano Art Week

Parallel to Miart, Milano Art Week (1 to 6 April) will offer a panorama of collateral events celebrating art and design throughout the city. Important scheduled exhibitions include a Robert Rauschenberg retrospective at the Museo del Novecento and Shirin Neshat‘s first major solo exhibition in Italy at PAC.

Synthesis and vision: an all-round art festival

Miart 2025‘s approach highlights a strong commitment to collaboration and the creation of a true contemporary art festival in Milan. The integration between the exhibition space and city events underlines a vision of harmonious synergy that not only enriches the fair but also amplifies the impact of artistic culture in the city.

The 29th edition of the International Modern and Contemporary Art Fair in Milan announced its theme, with an avant-garde and surrealistic campaign.

MiArt, the international modern and contemporary art fair organised by Fiera Milano, is back from April 4th to 6th 2024 at the Allianz MiCo Congress Centre.

This ideal expansion is in line with the steady growth of MiArt, which under the leadership of Nicola Ricciardi has seen an increase in both the quality and number of participating galleries, 40% of which are foreign. Furthermore, the fair has attracted more and more internationally renowned artists, collectors, curators and directors of private foundations and public museums.

The importance of MiArt as an international modern and contemporary art fair

MiArt has for years been one of the most important fairs on the modern and contemporary art scene. Every year, artists, galleries and collectors from all over the world gather in Milan to participate in this unique event. MiArt offers a platform to discover new artistic trends, meet emerging and established artists, and make connections in the art world.

MiArt’s desire to expand its geographical and temporal boundaries

One of the distinctive features of MiArt is its willingness to expand the geographical and temporal boundaries of art. The fair not only presents contemporary works, but also embraces the past, offering a broader perspective on the evolution of art over the centuries. This inclusive approach makes MiArt a unique event.

The main section, “Established”

The main section of MiArt, called Established, will open its doors to galleries exhibiting the most current artistic expressions together with works of art created during the 20th century. The variety on offer will range from the iconic masters of modern art to more recent creations. Special attention will be paid to galleries active in the field of collectors’ and artists’ design, emphasizing the connections between visual and applied arts and the design aspect of exhibitions.

Each proposal will be carefully evaluated by the selection committee and the projects will then be reviewed and refined by a dedicated team, in order to present a harmonious and well-structured mix that fosters communication between the galleries and the artists, maintaining a strong link with tradition but looking forward to the future. MiArt’s philosophy is to create a space that encourages artistic diversity and stimulates reflection on the many facets of contemporary art, offering the public a comprehensive and engaging overview of the art of the past and present.

Presentation of the ‘Portal’ section

At MiArt the ‘Portal’ section was introduced for the first time in 2023. This section aims to capture stable and enduring art in the flux of immediate actuality. ‘Portal’ offers a different perspective on art, exploring artistic universes and practices through parallel dimensions and unconventional prisms. This section represents a unique opportunity to discover artists and works that challenge conventions and open up new horizons.

The ‘Portal’ section

The ‘Portal’ section at MiArt is distinguished by its anachronistic nature, which aims to capture stable and enduring art in the flow of immediate actuality.

Description of the ‘Portal’ section as an anachronistic section

‘Portal’ is a unique and innovative section of MiArt, which aims to explore contemporary art through an unconventional temporal perspective. This section focuses on works of art that, despite having been created in different times, retain a relevance and vitality that make them relevant even today. “Portal” offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in artistic universes that transcend the boundaries of time and space.

Portal’s purpose in grasping stable and enduring art in the flow of immediate actuality

This section highlights works of art that, despite having been created in the past, retain a relevance and freshness that make them relevant even in the contemporary context. “Portal” offers a unique perspective on art, inviting visitors to reflect on the concept of temporality and discover how art can transcend the boundaries of time.

Presentation of the ten galleries selected for ‘Portal’

For the 28th edition of MiArt, ten galleries have been selected to participate in the ‘Portal’ section. These galleries will present artworks that embody the idea of stability and durability in the context of contemporary art. The selected works will offer an overview of different artistic practices and eras, creating a dialogue between past and present.

Discovering artistic universes and practices through parallel dimensions and unconventional prisms

Through the ‘Portal’ section, MiArt visitors will have the opportunity to discover unconventional artistic universes and practices. This section offers a unique perspective on contemporary art, inviting visitors to explore parallel dimensions and discover new prisms through which to observe and interpret art. “Portal” challenges temporal and spatial conventions, opening up new horizons and offering new perspectives on artworks.

Galleries presenting the languages of contemporaneity

One of the main sections of MiArt is dedicated to galleries presenting contemporary languages. These galleries offer a selection of works that reflect current artistic trends and new creative expressions. Through different art forms, such as painting, sculpture, photography and installation, these galleries offer a broad and diverse view of contemporary art.

Galleries presenting 20th century works

In addition to galleries focusing on the contemporary, MiArt dedicates a space to galleries presenting works from the 20th century. These galleries offer a retrospective of the works and artists that marked the artistic landscape of the last century. Through works by artists such as Picasso, Warhol, Pollock and many others, MiArt visitors can immerse themselves in the history of modern art and discover masterpieces that have influenced generations of subsequent artists.

Acceptance of applications from collector’s and author’s design galleries

MiArt is not only limited to the visual arts, but also hosts collectors’ and designer galleries. These galleries present unique and innovative design works, ranging from furniture to objets d’art. This section offers a different perspective on art, highlighting the importance of the applied arts and their relationship to visual art.

The importance of the relationship between visual and applied arts

MiArt recognises the importance of the relationship between visual art and the applied arts. The design works presented by the MiArt galleries demonstrate how art and design can interact and influence each other. This section offers a platform to explore the connections between these two disciplines and appreciate the interplay between aesthetics and functionality.

The design nature of the exhibition proposal

MiArt‘s exhibition proposal is characterised by a project-based nature. The selected galleries carefully curate the presentation of the works, creating environments and pathways that best enhance the works on display. This design approach offers visitors an immersive and engaging experience, allowing them to fully appreciate the art and connect with the works and artists.
