Next weekend, the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI) will open the doors of the Castello Mediceo di Melegnano, located just 3 km from our AN Hotel Melegnano and AN Hotel Dépendance Melegnano), on the occasion of the famous FAI Spring Days. The jewel of the city of Melegnano: The Mediceo Castle
The Mediceo Castle in Melegnano, an imposing fortress dating back to the 14th century, represents one of the most emblematic places in the historical and artistic panorama not only of our local area, but also in the Lombardy region. Built at the behest of Bernabò Visconti and later enlarged by the Sforza family, during the 16th century the castle became the property of the Medici family, the famous Florentine dynasty that left an indelible mark on the history of Italian art and culture, hence the name ‘Castello Mediceo’.
The castle was built in Gothic-Renaissance style and is surrounded by a moat and a drawbridge. Inside the castle, some original features such as the crenellated walls, arched windows and frescoed rooms can still be seen.
The Spring Days 2023 of the FAI, Fondo Ambiente Italiano
Today, the Castello Mediceo di Melegnano is used as a venue for exhibitions and cultural events, and its courtyard and garden are open to the public. In the recent past, at the beginning of October 2021, one of the last concerts of one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, Astor Piazzolla, the unforgettable Argentine accordionist, who passed away in July 2022, remained indelible in the memory of those who attended it. The Castello Mediceo di Melegnano is considered an important example of military architecture from the Renaissance period and a major tourist attraction for the city of Melegnano.
The two FAI days at the Mediceo Castle in Melegnano on 25 and 26 March promise a unique and unforgettable experience for all lovers of history, art and culture. Thanks to the collaboration of expert volunteers, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the history of the fortress, admire the Renaissance frescoes and rooms decorated with period furnishings, and discover the curiosities and secrets hidden within the castle walls.
In addition to the guided tours, the event includes a series of side events designed to engage and enthuse an audience of all ages, which will contribute to making the atmosphere of these two days even more special.

Possibility of parking in Piazza Francesco Bianchi, you can reach the Castle on foot in about 10 minutes through Via Giardino. Possibility of parking at Via Cesare Battisti (car park in front of the Cemetery) or at the Railway Station car park.
